Four Corners Detox Recovery Center Program Director Nominated for Behavioral Health Star Award

NM Behavioral Health Council Recognizes Barry Ore for his commitment to underserved populations in rural New Mexico

Gallup, NM — Barry Ore, Program Director for Four Corners Detox Recovery Center, a division of Santa Fe Recovery Center, will be presented the Behavioral Health Star Award at a ceremony on Tuesday at the Buffalo Thunder Resort as part of the Annual Behavioral Health Day at the Legislature schedule of events. Ore was chosen for this honor in recognition of his commitment to the field of substance use treatment and the impact his work has had on the historically underserved populations in McKinley County.

“His whole-person approach and understanding of the significant barriers rural New Mexicans encounter in finding treatment has proven invaluable in guiding the programming we’ve developed at Four Corners over the past two years,” said Santa Fe Recovery Center CEO, Stacy Martin.

Under Ore’s leadership, the facility has added residential treatment, including medically monitored withdrawal management, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), street outreach, and most recently, outpatient services. Ore and his team have forged close relationships with city and county leaders including the Navajo Nation for guidance and support on meeting the unique needs of Gallup and the surrounding areas. A cornerstone of the treatment offered at Four Corners Detox Recovery Center is the emphasis on bridging traditional Native American practices with evidence-based modalities. A recent partnership with the DWI Treatment Court provides individuals involved with the criminal justice system an opportunity to receive addiction recovery services.

“What we’ve been able to accomplish in Gallup in such a short amount of time speaks to the commitment and dedication of Barry and his team. We’re truly meeting a critical need – especially for the Native American and unhoused populations – by offering a continuum of care for the treatment of substance use disorders. We’re the only facility that provides this type of comprehensive, holistic treatment in the area,” said Martin.

Working in conjunction with a consortium of local healthcare providers, social service organizations and public service agencies to focus on the most urgent needs of the community, Four Corners Detox Recovery Center has plans to continue the expansion of its services including increasing telehealth and MAT accessibility.

Of receiving the award, Ore said, “I am proud to represent our organization, and the recognition is less a reflection of me as an individual and sincerely a recognition of the passion, commitment and skill that every person in our organization brings to the table to make our services possible.”
